10 Newcomers to watch in 2023
Rookies that oddsmakers like to contend for the BAG Tour Cup
The BAG Tour is home to some of the best golfers around, and every year we see a crop of new talent emerging. The competition for Rookie of the Year is always fierce, and this year is no exception. Here are ten potential candidates for Rookie of the Year in 2023.
Levi Shelton – Levi is a young golfer who is already making waves on Tour. He has a great swing and solid all-around game, and he’s already showed he can compete with the best players on Tour picking up a Win in his second appearance. He also has two 2nd place finishes and 4 Top 5’s on his resume. With a full season under his belt, the sky is the limit for Levi.
Drew Kirksey – Drew is ready to kick off his rookie season at the 2022 season opener at verdict ridge. He played in a few events last year and decided to make things official for 2023. Drew steps into the highly competitive B Division ready to rumble.
Trevor Hogeland – Trevor will start off his rookie year in the D Division on the BAG Tour. With his power off the tee and solid putting skills, I wouldn’t be suprised to see Trevor level up to Division C early on in the season. If he can commit to a solid schedule this year, I think Trevor will be a contender at the end of the season.
Mo Galal – Mo enters his rookie season with one Tour Start under his belt in Division D. Mo’s debut on the BAG Tour was the 2021 Mooresville Classic and he was able to string together a solid performance. After his taste of competition on Tour, he knew he wanted more so finally made the jump to become a full member this season. We are excited for Mo and look forward to watching his journey this season.
Aaron Vanderpool – Aaron kicks off his rookie season on Tour with two big wins under his belt. He hails from the mountain region and is ready to show the city boys how to play golf. Aaron will compete in the stacked A Division but if he gets the putter rolling, he is as good as anybody. This could definitely be a player to watch at the end of the year.
Casey Brighton – Casey will kick off in his rookie campaign at his home course, as we start things off at Verdict Ridge Country Club. A big win here could give him the confidence he needs to keep the ball rolling into a strong season. Casey had a near ace in his last outing and almost took home his own custom Caddiebike. We expect him to pick up right where he left off.
Rodney Nijoka – Rodney is a serious contender and has a good game to go with it. His play early on has impressed and we are excited to see him contend with the big boys in Division A. Rodney and Levi Shelton are a familiar pairing to watch this season that will be a force as a team, as well as individually.
Nick Rencis – Nick is an aspiring professional golfer and could be a dark horse candidate to win Division A if he puts together a solid season of events. We look forward to see what Nick brings to the Tour as he begins his rookie campaign on Monday, March 20th at our Season Opener at Verdict Ridge Country Club.
Spencer Ramseur – Spencer had one start in 2022 and picked up a solid 3rd place finish with teammate, Tyler Lowman, at the Regular Season Finale at Rocky River. The field was absolutely stacked, so a top 3 finish in your debut against that lineup is something to be proud of. Keep an eye on what type of schedule Spencer puts together this season becuase if its a good one, we think he has the game to be there at the end of the year.
Daniel Honeycutt – Daniel is another mountain region player who starts his rookie season with one Tour win already under his belt. Daniel and Aaron Vanderpool are going to be a force as a team and both players can hold their own individually as well. We are excited to see Daniel out there this season and know he’s got the game to contend for the title if he puts together the right schedule.
