Matchplay Bracket: Division B

Round 1 of the Matchplay Bracket is in the books.

RECAP:

Terrington Myles started things off with a bang pulling off the upset over Matchplay Favorite, The Santee Sleeper, Adam Jolley. They battled at Deerbrook Golf Club in Shelby, NC where Jolley held a 1 up lead going into 18. Terrington hit an incredible recovery shot after a wayward tee shot left him in the wrong fairway. After finding the green, Myles was able to drop a 20′ downhill winder for Birdie to square things up and force extra holes.

Trey Brown cruised through his match against Cam Bullman and so did Dylan Jones in his match with “Money” Mark Lathan. Drake Foster and Dave Bornack had a battle and Foster managed to pick up the win with 2 holes to play. Garcia and Brighton had a great match but Casey lost his touch late which is something you cant do against someone as consistent as Frank.

Another upset in Division B was Kevin Demeny eliminating one of the pre round favorites, Steve Letarte. The two battled at Mooresville Golf Club, site of the Matchplay Finals, and Demeny’s putting proved to be enough to get the job done on a day where both golfers didnt have their best stuff. Demeny will look to take down another big opponent in Round 2 as he gets set to take on Frank Garcia.

Mike Klyn has assumed the role of betting favorite with the early exit of the Santee Sleeper. Klyn has a strong game and feels he plays his best golf in H2H matchplay format. Klyn is definately one to keep an eye on as this bracket progresses. Drew Kirksey rounds out the elite 8 after eliminating Austin Threadgill in their match 3&2. Drew is a darkhorse who has the game to pull off a big upset. Stay tuned as he gets ready to face the powerhouse in Mike Klyn.
