Team Beachputt claims the title with a team combined score of -13.
Team Beachputt was led by Captain, Cory Martin of Outerlinks Golf.
Cory drafted LinksDrinks Athlete, Frank Garcia with his first selection in the draft. He was able to secure putting expert and newcomer of the year, Chris Grindstaff with his second pick. Finally, Cory drafted season points leader, Wayne Carver with his 4th and final pick.
Cory made the decision to send out Frank Garcia & Chris Grindstaff as their first team pairings. Garcia & Grindstaff did exactly what they were supposed to and fired off a respectable team score of -6. While Frank and Chris anxiously waited in the clubhouse for Martin & Carver to finish, they realized they were 5 shots out of the current lead in the clubhouse, which was set by team On Point Golf at -11.
As Martin and Carver approached the 18th green, they had managed to give themselves a 1 stroke lead over On Point Golf and tied with the Dylan Lancaster led Caddiebike Team at -12.
With the pressure on, Cory Martin fired one in there tight to about 5 feet from 154 yards out. This gave their team a really good look at Birdie which would move them into the outright lead at -13 if Lancaster & Helfrich were unable to convert their Birdie looks. If Caddiebike biridies, we will be looking at extra holes.
Lancaster & Helfrich both missed their 20 foot birdie putt which put all the pressure back on season points leader, Wayne Carver who was standing over a 5 foot birdie putt to not only win the Tour Championship for Team BeachPutt, but also to secure the Season Long BAG Tour Cup Points race & to be named the Champion Golfer of the Year.
Wayne Carver stepped up, gave it a look, and rolled the ball right into the back of the cup! You could not have asked for a more exciting finish to the season. Huge Congratulations to Team Beachputt & to Wayne Carver for becoming the 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year.
